  • What causes hay fever?
Hay fever is triggered by an allergic reaction to outdoor or indoor allergens, such as pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds, as well as spores from moulds. When your body comes into contact with these allergens, it releases histamine, which leads to the symptoms commonly associated with hay fever.
  • How can I tell if I have hay fever or a cold?
Hay fever and common cold symptoms can be quite similar, but there are key differences. Hay fever typically causes itchy eyes, ears, and throat, symptoms which are less common with a cold. Additionally, hay fever symptoms persist as long as you're exposed to allergens, whereas a cold usually clears up on its own within one to two weeks.
  • What treatments are available for hay fever at Healand Clinic?
At Healand Clinic, we offer a variety of personalised treatments for hay fever. These include allergy testing and diagnosis, customised medication plans (such as antihistamines and nasal corticosteroids), lifestyle modification advice, and immunotherapy for more severe cases. Each treatment plan is tailored to your specific allergy profile and symptoms.
  • How effective is immunotherapy for hay fever?
Immunotherapy can be highly effective for individuals with severe hay fever, particularly those who have not responded well to other treatments. It works by gradually desensitising your immune system to the allergen, which can significantly reduce the severity of your reactions over time. Success rates vary, but many patients experience substantial long-term relief.
  • Can hay fever be cured?
While there is currently no cure for hay fever, the symptoms can be effectively managed with the right treatment plan. At Healand Clinic, our goal is to minimise your symptoms and improve your quality of life through personalised care and the latest treatments available.
